After the Checkered Flag-
Historically, Welsh sheep are shorn twice in the year. Besides the regular shearing in May/June, the wool was clipped close about the neck and forequarters in September/October, otherwise all of it would be lost in summer and winter wanderings of the animal among the thickets, and furze in search of food during those seasons.
